About This Stay
The Asa Wright Nature Centre (AWNC) is a world-renowned birdwatching destination and conservation trust located in the Arima Valley of the Northern Range in Trinidad and Tobago. Established in 1967, it was one of the first nature centres in the Caribbean and is situated on the former Spring Hill Estate, an old coffee and cocoa plantation.
Birdwatcher's Paradise: Over 256 bird species have been recorded here. Its famous veranda offers close-up views of colorful species like the Tufted Coquette, Bearded Bellbird, and Blue-crowned Motmot at nearby feeders.
Oilbird Colony: The centre protects Dunston Cave, home to the world's most accessible breeding colony of Oilbirds (Steatornis caripensis), unique nocturnal fruit-eating birds.
Conservation & Research: Spanning approximately 1,500 acres of protected rainforest, the centre serves as a vital scientific research station and educational hub.
